Venus Pool is an electro funk and soul band established by young brothers, Ed and Harry Forbes.
They needed someone to do a little bit of branding for their social media platforms and design a logo and a business card for the band.
They showed me a short video that demonstrated the path of the Earth and Venus around the Sun and it turns out they ‘plate’ a really nice floral pattern that almost looks 3D to me because of the multiple layers of ‘fabric’. I myself am a huge admirer of spacey themes so was thrilled when the Venus Pool guys wanted me to turn this emblem into their logo and incorporate it in all of the designs.
I watched the video over and over again to understand how to build up the whole thing from scratch using the pen tool in Illustrator. I kept the emblem white and gave it a dark, lightly textured charcoal background because I find that bold and monochrome is the ultimate way to make logos that stand out and are relatively ageless so they will look classy even in ten year’s time.
For their twitter and facebook page, however, they asked me to use some colours for a friendlier, more approachable look.
