Thoughtful David was my first admission for the Art Forward Fine Art Challenge by Minted.
When I read that we are allowed to use mixed media, I knew that I wanted to make something fun and eclectic (all code words for weird and crazy by the way) despite the fact that these sort of designs are not everyone’s cup of tea. And I know when it comes to challenges or competitions, it’s not smart to not consider the target audience, but I was in a headspace during this time when I just wanted to create stuff that made me excited and that I would want to display in my own home.
So if we talk ‘fine art’, then obviously Michelangelo, right? And since Michelangelo, then obviously David. That was the thought process.
I wanted to counterbalance the classic and neat portrait of David with something unusual though. I remember watching MTV as a kid, and they had these crazy weird animations before and after commercial breaks that would just blow my mind. I had not seen such things on any other channel before. There were all these random characters that looked like they came from a wild dream. They would move around, do weird stuff, go through transformations and you never knew what was going to happen next. It was the opposite of order and I loved it.
