The Hun’s Hut is a small, independent coffee shop founded by a young married couple – a South African wife and her Hungarian husband. The ideology behind the name was to synthesise their culture and when they asked me to design their logo, I wanted to come up with something that reflects on tradition as well.
Being a Hungarian myself, I already knew how beautiful our traditional motives were and I was really happy to find out that my clients were keen on sneaking them into the design.
My first sketches portrayed a stylised hut using Hungarian motives, and the name took place inside of it. It was a good path to take but it was too much for the couple. They wanted something really simple, script-like that they can use for stamps, t-shirts, napkins, etc. They wanted one flowing gesture.
During the second consultation we agreed on keeping a bird from my sketch and make it ‘sing’ the letters, similarly to the intro of a traditional cartoon that I grew up on.
