I really like creating art prints with animals on them. There are just so many beautiful species and so many different ways to exhibit them. Flamingos especially seem to have been very popular for so many years and there are just endless amounts of products on the market that feature them in many different ways. They are a bit like the top models of birds to me if I look at them with my analytic mind: long and slim legs and neck, outstanding colours, strong and peculiar ‘facial’ features – just so photogenic!
With this Skating Flamingo Art Print I wanted to capture their exotic beauty in a way that I have never seen before. I had this vision of a tropical scene with a lot of vegetation, sunset and a curvy road. I also wanted to put a pair of vintage roller skates on the flamingo to make it more quirky and fun.
It took me quite a while to find all the stock images that would measure up to what I had in mind. For the background image for instance I had to merge 2 different photos and it took a lot of time and editing to get this result. And it seemed impossible to find a good image of roller skates. I searched for ages on 4 different sites and I got to a point where I almost gave up. It is so difficult to find certain images some times because the sites that offer fully free pictures lack variety compared to the very popular and very expensive ones. Even if you find a photo of the item you want, the angle might be off and there is almost no chance of finding more pictures of the same scene taken from different angles. So it takes a lot of luck sometimes to find the perfect photo. That’s why I let out a big ‘Ah!’ when I came across this picture finally. I could not believe it! It even had little flamingos on the breaks! And they were the exact colour I wanted.
