Rainbow Rain

Rainbow Rain has to be one of my favourite art prints that I designed so far. I made a little doodle of the idea in my notebook years ago, I just never got around to actually doing it. Until now. Wow, I sound like a super dramatic movie trailer.

Anyway, when the idea came to me, I only drew the colourful lines of rain and the umbrella but I didn’t know how I can make the latter visible without using a contour line. I wanted it to be just one solid block that is white just like the background and I didn’t want the colourful rain to appear ‘underneath’ the umbrella. How do I do that? I didn’t know the answer so I left the idea alone for like 3 years. 😀

Lately, as I put together this big collection of art prints, I took my notes out from years ago and decided to actually turn this half-baked idea into a finished design. I realised quickly that I have to just place a background colour behind the umbrella. But I don’t want to pick a colour from the ones I used for the rain because favouring one of them over the others just wouldn’t be fair. Shall I go for grey? But grey is so ‘meh’… Naah, let’s go for black! I tried it out and I was happy to note that the overall impression of the design still remained super playful.

These posters are available for purchase here. There are many different sizes and frames to choose from.
