I made this poster for ACM (Academy of Contemporary Music) to advertise myself there.
I definitely wanted to put the stress on the artwork rather than the lettering because I saw enough of today’s average posters, banners and flyers to get bored with their approach. On them I can see a bunch of colours, a lot of information but no real creative effort. I just know that the priority was to get them done quickly.
In my case the goal was to flash some hand-made art that resonates with the school’s atmosphere. I made a little bit of an eclectic mess when I used many different textures and patterns but I also applied certain methods to organise the different bits and create harmony.
I used colours that complimented each other and also some black and white photography to tone down the whole image and stop it from being too loud and childish-looking. I gave the instruments a solid white contour too to sneak some more order in to the chaos. I like mixing ‘too much’ with ‘hardly anything’ because they balance each other perfectly.
