When I decided to create London-themed art prints, I wanted to come up with something I’ve never seen before myself. I wanted the collection to be different from the usual images of London one can see on postcards or on Google or even on etsy or any other sites I came across so far.
I did capture the most common landscapes with my camera though (Tower Bridge, Tate Modern, a telephone box, Westminster Abbey, London Eye and Big Ben) but I played around with them so that they would reflect on the city’s atmosphere and finally this series of eclectic London art prints was born.
I used different tools and effects to transform each photo but they all share some features in common so the whole composition remains somewhat organised and balanced.
As for Tower Bridge and Westminster Abbey I gave them both a spacey background which is actually a painting of mine that I edited and dressed up with stars in Photoshop.
Tate Modern and Big Ben on the other hand showcase some other kind of creativity: I transformed what they normally are into something else they could be in an imaginary dimension. I turned them black&white because colours blunted the quirkiness of their stories.
My first thought about London Eye was to turn it into a large bicycle. I just wasn’t fond of the image that appeared in my mind which was a picture that shows it from the distance. I wanted to show it from close, from that perspective that captures the view that took my breath away when I was there.
Lastly, the unoriginal idea of a red telephone box with a twist to be somewhat original at the end of the day. I saw so many art prints with red telephone boxes and I did like them but this urge to create something new didn’t let me stop there.
