Double Exposure Elephant Wall Sticker

This Double Exposure Elephant Wall Sticker is the fruit of my collaboration with Shaun Mew from Shift+delete.

The original idea came from Shaun. He started to work on this wall sticker that was a 2 in 1 kind of design: it was an elephant but also an African landscape within the elephant. He said he was stuck and wasn’t sure about the idea anymore. When I saw what he did I felt so amazed and inspired that I asked him to let me finish it. It really looked like a fantastic idea that only needs some help with the logistics as in where exactly place each detail and how.

He gave the legs this cracked earth texture and divided them with trees such as umbrella thorn and baobab. He also wanted to include some mountains but couldn’t find a way to execute the transition smoothly.

I wasn’t sure myself how it’s possible either but I did want to make it work because I saw a huge creative potential in this sticker. At times when I have an idea in mind but am unsure about the implementation, I just start putting together all the elements I want to include. I place them roughly where I want them to be at the end and then begin to refine them, starting with those bits that fit in right away. I usually leave the parts I’m completely uncertain about to the end and somehow, when I stop trying too hard they all fall into place.
