Cover image for Jacinta Lal

I created this cover image for Jacinta Lal who is a beautiful London-based musician.

She asked me to create an art work for her upcoming song on Spotify called Sagittarius. She sent me a couple of photos of herself and asked me to transform them by some reference images she  shared with me.

Jacinta wanted her portrait to look like a puzzle with some pieces missing and revealing the sagittarius sign, her name and the song title. She also had an owl illustration that all of her previous cover images featured in some way and asked me to incorporate it in the art work somehow.

I tried to find the right balance regarding the sizes of the puzzle pieces and the amount of the missing ones. I ended up writing Jacinta’s name and the song title next to her portrait, otherwise the composition would have been too crowded and unreadable or too zoomed in and out of balance that way.

I had to stop and think for a second how to incorporate the owl illustration smoothly and then the idea just came to me: I should try and make it part of the portrait as if it was a tattoo on Jacinta’s shoulder.
