I was hired by a Norwegian psychotherapist called Alf Andersen to design a logo for his practice ‘Toppetasjen’.
The name translates to ‘Top Floor’ and refers to the brain but also means top quality in Norwegian. Alf treats both couples and individuals with a holistic approach and wanted the logo to grasp this.
He said that he wanted the logo to look professional, warm and that it should exude hope and insight. As for colours he wanted to see blue and/or ochre but was open-minded to other possibilities.
For the first round I sent many-many different ideas to him. Some tried to reflect on the holeness part, others tried to grasp the insight attribute. I was very happy to find out that Alf ended up liking the version I was the most excited about myself. It was this symbolic profile image of a person and their brain. I wanted to express the endless opportunities in the human mind somehow and tried to include the image of outer space within the shape of the brain but it just wasn’t working out the way I wanted. It looked either unrecognizable or straight up childish. So I kept trying to give it an interesting pattern that looks complex and modern and ended up creating this web-like one that consists of my beloved triangles.
This branding project for Toppetasjen also included a selection of colours that Alf can use for his website and printing materials in the future. Moreover, I played around with the ‘brain matter’ and created some texture ideas from it.
