I created this second Album Cover for Mark Anthony in May, 2021. I was so happy when he got in touch with me regaring this project. I designed his first album cover back in 2016 and the fact that he wanted to work with me again was an honour. Not to mention, that he is very generous when it comes to giving me creative freedom and that makes the designing process very easy and fun.
His album is called ‘A history of the future in music’ and i found it very clever and mind-bending. It immeditaley made me want to create a futuristic art work that also looks vintage somehow. I didn’t know right away what exactly I should do, and whenever this happens, I start the work on the parts that don’t require creativity just yet, but manual labour.
At the beginning Mark sent over a reference image that he really liked and also a picture of himself that he wanted to be incorporated on the cover. So I opened his portrait image in PhotoShop and started to isolate it because I already knew that the background will need changing in order to achieve a similar look to the reference image.
In the meantime my mind came up with ideas about how to turn his picture into something futuristic? I could turn him into an astronaut, or make him look like a hologram, or both! Wait a minute…I already have an astronaut hologram art work, can’t I be more original?…..Robots! I’ll turn him into a robot!
Funny enough, he later sent over a track list to me, and one of the songs was called Robots. It cannot be a coincidence, I thought! That reassured me that I was on the right path and long story short, Mark loved the art work.
