Abstrac is a young musician who has recently started his journey in the wide world of electronic music. He asked me to do a cover for a mashup he made, called ‘Absence’. He wanted the artwork to reflect on the experience of being alone.
This photo I took in Badlands National Park in the summer of 2013 on an early morning when me and a friend of mine woke up before dawn and drove there to witness the sunrise.
We took nature’s collaboration for granted but it wasn’t the case. We got a trick played on us but I couldn’t have been more grateful for it. It was that kind of scenario when you expect to see something nice but instead, something mind blowing unfolds. A very thick and mystical fog was sitting on the land, and our surroundings looked so surreal, as though we were walking on another planet. The silence was so thick as well that it was hard to believe that noise still existed at all.
My client sent me a photo of himself so that I could do my part of the mashup and make one picture out of the two. Instead of seamlessly blending them together I had this idea to do the very opposite and create science fiction. I’m going to blame this on ‘Stranger things’.
