In uni we had this class where we had to design all sorts of buildings and at the evaluation not only the design itself mattered but also the way we presented it with models and drawings. To me designing the building and having to think about the structures, sizes, functions and rooms was just an excuse to be able to draw the ready thing at the end.
I found so much joy in experimenting with different tools and techniques. I loved using really soft pencils that would leave a very dark mark on my paper, I adored isograph pens and ink and I bought a few differet shades of these markers someone recommended to me. They told me to try and run a wet brush over the lines because they become this magical puddle of colour like a paint stroke but with a beautiful gradient.
Only now, years later did I discover that those markers were actually watercolour markers so they were designed to do this magic when getting in contact with water. I got excited again because I’ve been wanting to be able to create in a style that Fashion Illustrations are created in and they seem to use watercolours. I ordered a 24 colour-pack but while I’m waiting for those to arrive, I used those handful of colours I still have from years ago. These illustrations are not the exact style I was aiming for but I’d like to think that with practise I’ll get to there soon.
