I cannot say I’ve done many portraits in my life. As I keep doing more and more projects, I get lesser impressed by and interested in the ones that have nothing to say but ‘look at me, I can draw’.

When I drew the one of the blond girl, I guess it was just to try and see how close I can get to reality. I was proud of myself back then because it was a good result considering that I don’t have a significant experience on the field. (Not that good though to put the actual picture next to it :-D) I had fun creating the layers and seeing how big of a difference a few light-handed pencil lines can make.

The other portrait is a different story. That one I painted of a friend of mine who was going through a difficult time and she felt like there is an empty space inside of her. I made the picture to show her that space can be understood and experienced differently. It is not necessarily the absence of something but a deep and endless quality in ourselves that contains everything that has ever existed hence it is perfect and full.
